My research efforts are mainly focused in understanding the properties of nanoscale systems at an atomic level with the help of a scanning tunneling microscope as key experimental tool.

At present, I am particularly interested in exploring graphene physics  with atomic precision; electronic properties, point defects and graphene coupling being the main topics.

I have also investigated the evolution of superconductivity in isolated single nanoparticles as a function of size and temperature.

During my PhD I studied, at the atomic scale, the electronic properties, phase transitions and surface diffusion taking place on the metal-semiconductor systems between 40K and 400K.

Throughout my research career I have been deeply engaged in the design, construction and electronic control of scanning probe instrumentation.
